Aral, the largest fuel retailer in Germany and part of BP, marked a milestone with the opening of the 200th gas station with REWE To Go shop concept in the capital city of Berlin. With this concept, Aral and REWE are introducing a new era in the convenience business in the German petrol market. REWE Markt GmbH is one of the leading companies in the German food retail market.

After a three-week reconstruction, a new product range dominates at the recently re-opened service station at Torsten Grubert, Potsdamer Chaussee 6. In addition to a new visual impression, customers can now avail of the new selection of fresh and freshly prepared, high-quality food as well as hot dishes.

“In 2017, we have systematically advanced our refurbishment at our filling stations,” says Aral’s Head of Transformation Convenience Business Rainer Kraus. “The new concept comes very well: With REWE To Go, we offer exactly the goods range that mobile customers expect in a modern petrol station shop – fast, comfortable and healthy. This is also confirmed by the rising shop sales.”

The focus of the 2016 conversion was in North Rhine-Westphalia, followed by stations in Baden-Württemberg, Berlin, Bremen, Hamburg, Hesse, Lower Saxony, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Schleswig-Holstein. By the end of the year, Aral will open another 40 REWE To Go stores, and the first stations in Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt will also be added. By 2021, up to 1,000 company-owned petrol stations are to receive the innovative REWE To Go sales format.
