Experts Gather Where Knowledge and Action Unite

WASHINGTON--(BUSINESS WIRE)--lt;a href="https://twitter.com/hashtag/ADAO?src=hash" target="_blank"gt;#ADAOlt;/agt;--The Asbestos Disease Awareness Organization (ADAO), an independent nonprofit dedicated to preventing asbestos exposure; will host its 15th Annual International Asbestos Awareness and Prevention Conference, “Where Knowledge and Action Unite”, April 5-7, 2019 in Washington, D.C.

This annual event is the only conference in the U.S. solely dedicated to preventing exposure to eliminate asbestos-caused diseases. Maintaining its commitment to provide meaningful content and connections at a highly affordable rate, the conference brings together treatment, prevention, and policy experts from around the world. Attendees have a unique opportunity to connect and share with the leaders and influencers in the asbestos prevention community, as well as fellow victims sharing in their fight to turn anger into action against asbestos.

Dr. David Michaels, epidemiologist and former United States Assistant Secretary of Labor for Occupational Safety and Health (OSHA), will give Saturday's keynote address. Author David McCumber, an award-winning journalist and editor of the Montana Standard who co-authored the book An Air that Kills: How the Asbestos Poisoning of Libby, Montana Uncovered a National Scandal, will also deliver the Andrew Schneider Memorial Lecture. Award winning musician and ADAO National Spokesperson, Jordan Zevon, will perform at the gala dinner.

“After 15 years of working together, we are closer to a global asbestos ban than ever before,” stated ADAO President and Co-Founder, Linda Reinstein. “This year’s annual awareness and prevention conference reinforces the importance of collaboration and communication, highlighting the transformative power of turning anger into action. Since 2004, we have built a strong and diverse community. This year’s conference brings together nearly 30 experts from ten countries to advance prevention and policy to end the man-made asbestos disaster.”

ADAO’s conference will kick off with its first ever March for Justice and Remembrance on Friday. The 2019 conference will include an Art-Driven Advocacy theme, featuring leading artists sharing their talents to help drive an asbestos ban forward. Saturday’s five academic sessions focus on the latest medical and prevention information from around the world. The 15th Annual Awards and Recognition Gala dinner will recognize the heroes fighting to end exposure and create a new generation that is asbestos free. The closing event on Sunday is the Unity and Remembrance Brunch to honor and hold close in our hearts those who have been silenced by asbestos as delegates embrace solidarity in the fight against asbestos.
