Ameresco’s Senior Project Developer Jim Bier Inducted into Solid Waste Association of North America (SWANA) Hall of Flame

Jim Bier recognized as a mainstay of the industry, providing quality
LFG development of beneficial-use projects, and leading advancement of
the industry

FRAMINGHAM, Mass.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–#SWANA–Ameresco, Inc. (NYSE:AMRC), a leading energy
efficiency
and renewable
energy
company, today announced that at the 41st annual LFG
Symposium in Denver this month, Ameresco’s Senior Project Developer Jim
Bier was inducted into SWANA’s Hall of Flame. Mr. Bier was recognized
and introduced by this year’s Distinguished Individual Achievement Award
winner and former colleague, Tom Bilgri, Manager of LFG Engineering
Services for Cornerstone Environmental Group, a Tetra Tech Company.

Since its inception in 1977, the SWANA (Solid Waste Association of North
America) Landfill Gas Division’s Hall of Flame has inducted only 70
people, which have included many pioneers of the landfill gas (LFG)
industry. Since the 1970s, SWANA has grown from a fledging organization
into the world’s most prestigious solid waste industry association with
over 10,000 members.

Mr. Bilgri said, “Jim has been a mainstay of our industry for more than
30 years, providing quality LFG development of beneficial-use projects
and the advancement of the industry.”

After graduating from the University of Cincinnati with a BS degree in
Geology, Mr. Bier began his career with Getty Synthetic Fuels, one of
the pioneers in the LFG industry. As a field technician, he helped test
landfills for the economic viability of LFG recovery projects. He then
moved on to Pacific Energy, another pioneer in the LFG industry and a
subsidiary of Southern California Gas Company. His expertise helped
maximize the volumes of gas extracted for its LFG utilization projects.

Mr. Bier subsequently spent ten years as a Vice President at SCS
Engineers, nine years as a Vice President at EMCON, and the past twelve
years as a Senior Project Developer at Ameresco. At every stop along the
way, he has worked tirelessly to increase the knowledge-base of the LFG
industry, expand the opportunities for renewable fuels and electrical
production, and educate the public on the benefits of LFG utilization.
He is masterful at bringing stakeholders to the table for a common good
– finding the benefits for all parties involved. Mr. Bier has served as
a partner and mentor to many of SWANA’s Technical Division members, and
has served on the Technical Division with distinction, most recently as
the Chairman of the LFG Utilization Committee, helping to bring LFG
treatment and renewable natural gas (RNG) development to the forefront
of the industry.

Michael T. Bakas, Executive Vice President, Ameresco said, “Ameresco is
proud of the breadth and depth of our team members’ technical expertise
and we’re thrilled Jim Bier has been recognized as a SWANA Hall of Flame
inductee. During his tenure with Ameresco, Jim has helped to establish
Ameresco as a premier developer of landfill gas-to-energy projects. As a
valued team member and dear friend, I am proud to see Jim recognized for
his tireless efforts to move our industry forward. This honor is well
deserved and very much earned.”
