Fluor Chosen for Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management Contract for Vopak Fuel Storage Terminal in Durban, South Africa

IRVING, Texas & WOODMEAD, South Africa–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Fluor
Corporation
(NYSE: FLR) announced today that it was awarded an
engineering, procurement and construction management contract by Vopak
Terminal Durban (Pty) Ltd. to deliver the Vopak Growth 4 Project in
Durban, South Africa. Fluor booked the undisclosed contract value in the
fourth quarter of 2017.

“This is one of Vopak’s largest storage facility projects in South
Africa and the largest storage project undertaken by Fluor in Africa,”
said Al
Collins
, president of Fluor’s Energy & Chemicals business in Europe,
Africa and the Middle East.

“We are pleased to assist Vopak with this project where our team will
use Fluor’s Zero Base ExecutionSM approach to safely develop
fit-for-purpose integrated solutions to optimize the expansion of the
facility,” said Alejandro Escalona, general manager of Fluor in
Sub-Saharan Africa. “Fluor is successfully using Zero Base Execution all
over the world to reduce the cost of facilities while improving schedule
certainty by aligning the design and execution principles, project
drivers and economic needs before design work begins.”

The expansion project is part of Vopak’s program to facilitate the
increased demand for fuel with cleaner specifications in Southern Africa
by increasing the capacity of fuel storage at its Durban terminal.

To add value to the project, Fluor will use its global networks to
competitively source material and equipment that cannot be sourced
locally. Local contractors and vendors will also be used to further
develop and sustain the local labor market, enterprises and economy.

Fluor previously completed Vopak’s Fuel 2 project at the same location
and will similarly execute this project in a safe, socially,
economically and environmentally responsible manner to benefit future
generations.
