Winners are from Livonia, MI and Pasadena, TX
NORWALK, Conn.–(BUSINESS WIRE)–HomeServe USA, a leading provider of home repair solutions, announced the latest winners of its HomeServe Cares Foundation “Caring for Community” grant program. The initiative awards grants to non-profits and municipalities to support community-based programs. The latest round of grants, the fourth since the program launched in April 2019, focused on projects to enhance local parks, community centers and other public spaces.
The first winner is the non-profit Saint Joseph Mercy Health System and the Healthy Livonia program in Livonia, Michigan. HomeServe’s grant will be used to purchase and install two self-operable battery-powered pool lifts to allow people with limited mobility to easily enter two of the city’s public pools and to bring the pools into compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
“Supporting accessibility programs and initiatives is a big reason why HomeServe launched its Caring for Community grant program. The addition of these two pool lifts will ensure access to recreation, fun and exercise for more individuals visiting Livonia’s pools, which we are pleased to support,” said John Kitzie, CEO of HomeServe USA. “With Livonia being particularly hard hit by COVID-19, we hope that the news of this grant award provides a ray of sunshine during what is an unquestionably challenging time.”
The second winner is the City of Pasadena, Texas’ Parks and Recreation Department. HomeServe’s grant will support the city’s Verne Cox Multipurpose Recreation Center, which provides year-round specialized recreation services for individuals with cognitive and physical disabilities. The grant will help with the rehabilitation of the Center’s asphalt sport court to make it easier for wheelchair participants to navigate the surface. The court is used year round for softball and football games and practice, as well as for the annual Wheechair Wind Up softball tournament.

The Verne Cox Multipurpose Recreation Center provides an incredible and unique recreation facility to individuals in communities around the Houston metro region that often have limited recreational opportunities,” explained Kitzie.
