BAIC, Chongqing Yinxiang to build mini-vans

Beijing Automotive Industry Holding Co. Ltd. (BAIC) and motorcycle maker Chongqing Yinxiang Motorcycle (Group) Co. Ltd. will build a plant in the Hechuan District of Chongqing in southwest China for 2.5 billion yuan (US$376.07 million). The first phase of the project will be built in 2011 and will be capable of producing about 300,000 vehicles. The JV is expected to become operational by 2012. It will mainly make mini-vans, sport utility vehicles (SUVs), multi-purpose vehicles (MPVs) and pick-ups, as well as engines and auto and motorcycle parts and components. (December 6, 2010)
