Castrol launches Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic

Castrol announced the launch of Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic, which combines its “Fluid Titanium Technology” with 25% renewable plant-based materials to deliver a motor oil that is both “Titanium strong and more environmentally friendly than ever before.”

Castrol, which is part of UK-based oil major BP and one of the world’s leading lubricant brands, said its consumer research revealed that 18% of U.S. consumers are passionate about the environment and seek out products which offer benefits, such as the use of renewable resources, but without compromising performance.

“A revolutionary new product for our industry, Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic delivers 100% of the Castrol EDGE performance our customers are accustomed to, combined with our advanced bio-technology to protect engines and reduce the environmental impact of their engine oil,” said Tony Smith, Castrol senior advisor for claims and demonstrations.

Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic exceeds the fuel economy performance requirement of API SN and ILSAC GF-5. The 25% bio-content is endorsed by the USDA Certified Biobased Product label.

Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic motor oil will also be certified carbon neutral, with the CO2 footprint associated with the production, packaging, distribution and storage of the product offset through BP Target Neutral.

The Castrol EDGE Bio-Synthetic range includes one quart and five quart sizes and viscosity grades that cover the great majority of cars in the U.S. It will be available to purchase via Amazon and selected outlets from January 2017.
