Dutch parliament votes to raise biofuels mandate in 2018

The Dutch parliament voted to increase the biofuels mandate for 2018 to 8.5% on an energy basis from this year’s 7.75%. The mandate will also include a 0.3% sub-target for advanced biofuels, while waste-based materials will continue to be double-counted.

The overall mandate is set to increase to 10% in 2020, while the advanced biofuels target will increase incrementally to 0.5%.

The outcome of the vote was in line with expectations set out in a preliminary parliament meeting on December 4, when the change in the legislation was proposed.

The new mandate will be effective on January 1, 2018.
