Egypt to introduce 95 octane petrol with additives to help boost engine performance
Egypt’s Petroleum Ministry announced that a special octane 95 petrol grade with additives will be introduced in the country for the first time to help boost engine performance.
Because it is additized, the new 95 octane petrol can help improve fuel efficiency, according to Egyptian Petroleum Minister Tarek El-Molla, who spoke at a press conference yesterday. However, despite the additional cost of the gasoline additives, the new 95 octane petrol will be priced similarly to regular 95 octane petrol. Egypt currently has three grades of petrol: 80 octane petrol, which is sold at EGP 3.65 (USD 0.21) per liter, 92 octane petrol at EGP 5 (USD 0.28) per liter, and 95 octane petrol at EGP 6.6 (USD 0.37) per liter.
Earlier, the minister announced that further fuel subsidy cuts will be implemented in July, in accordance with the government’s reform programme to eliminate fuel subsidies.
