Longer-lasting metalworking fluids (MWFs) are more sustainable from the standpoints of cost per part and impact on the environment; less waste equals less impact. This workshop will help attendees gain a greater understanding of water-dilutable MWFs and why they fail, and learn how to minimize the risk of failure.

Who Should Attend?

This class is intended for MWF producers and distributors, raw material manufacturers and distributors (base oils, additives, etc.), MWF technical service personnel, MWF users (machinists, plant engineers, fluid managers, etc.), equipment suppliers (filtration, water treatment, mist collectors, recycling, etc.) and lab testing equipment suppliers (biological dip slides, conductivity meters, water hardness and other wet chemical test kits, etc.).

The demands on formulators, raw material suppliers and end users of MWFs have never been greater. Manufacturing cost and part quality requirements, competing technologies (additive manufacturing, etc.), and sustainability factors (impact on global warming, land and water, etc.) are putting greater pressure than ever on all segments of the MWF value chain. This seminar will help all MWF stakeholders learn how they can positively impact the performance and longevity of MWFs, and thereby help move the industry in a more sustainable direction.

Workshop Leader

Patrick (Pat) Brutto, M.Sc., of Faith-Full MWF Consulting
 is an STLE-certified Metalworking Fluid Specialist (CMFS) with over 34 years of global experience in metalworking fluids (MWFs), including MWF additive development and application (amino alcohols, corrosion inhibitors, biocides, specialty emulsifiers) and experience formulating and testing water-dilutable MWFs. Pat spent most of his career at ANGUS Chemical Company, as an R&D chemist and technical service specialist, along with time at Hangsterfer’s Laboratories as a global MWF scientist for their MWF product line. Pat served as a director on STLE’s board in 2014-2020 and was the 2018 winner of the Vic Joll Award, an STLE National Award. He currently serves as vice-chair of STLE’s metalworking fluid education and training committee and is an active member of ASTM committee E34.50, which develops health and safety standards for MWFs.
