Exol Lubricants is approved for Scania’s new gearbox oil spec

Exol Lubricants’ Athena Super Syngear 75W-90 oil has received approval from Scania for its new gearbox oil specification STO 1:1G. The product will remain on the STO 2:0 A FS list for axles.

Athena Super Syngear 75W-90 is a fully synthetic, heavy duty, multipurpose, long-life commercial gear oil meeting the requirement of both API GL-5 and MT-1. It is manufactured from highly refined synthetic polyalphaolefin base stocks, combined with a new powerful additive and a highly shear stable viscosity modifier.

Scania recently introduced a new performance level, STO 1:1 G, for gearboxes. Scania STO 1:0 high performance oil for gearboxes 75W-90 was specially  developed to meet the stringent requirements of customers carrying out transport  operations with heavy trucks and buses. The oil is recommended for Scania’s manual  gearboxes, especially in cold climates. Scania STO 1:0 high performance oil 75W-90 is  suitable for all performance requirements in accordance with API GL-5, which means  that the oil can withstand the heavy loading to which cylindrical gears in heavy vehicles  are exposed. 

Scania STO 1:0 high performance oil 75W-90 has very good low temperature  characteristics, which facilitate lubrication and reduce the risk of sluggish gear changing.  The excellent thermal stability of the base oil also reduces the risk of deposits and  oxidation at high temperatures. 

The oil is recommended for Scania’s manual gearboxes for ambient temperatures from  below -30°C up to +30°C.  

Characteristics 

• The oil has also been developed to prevent wear at varying temperatures and loads,  which results in an improved service life and lower repair costs. 

• The oil has a low flow temperature, thus protecting gears and bearings when starting  the vehicle from cold and reducing the risk of sluggish gear changing. 

• Good thermal stability and high oxidation stability combined with low friction  increase the service life of the oil and components, which results in clean components  and allows extended oil change intervals. 

• Good results during static and dynamic testing with different sealing materials  demonstrate good leak prevention characteristics and allow extended oil change  intervals.
