ExxonMobil announces acceptance of mobile payment at pump

ExxonMobil has become the first major fuel retailer to accept mobile payment for pump purchases. More than 6,000 Exxon- and Mobil-branded stations across the U.S. are equipped to accept its app, called Speedpass. Through the app, any major credit or debit card account can be accessed through cloud-based technology.

Other conveniences that the app offers include the choice to have a receipt emailed, printed or both. This makes it easier to track oneโ€™s spending. With this development, gas stations are joining other retailers, such as grocery stores and coffee shops, where customers can pay with their phones or smart watches, not having to dig out their wallets to make a payment at the pump.

ExxonMobil plans to expand the number of app-enabled stations in the U.S. to 8,000 by mid-year. The app can also tell you where to find stations that accept it for payment.
