ExxonMobil expands advanced recycling in Texas with USD200M
ExxonMobil has announced a USD200 million investment to expand its advanced recycling operations at its Beaumont and Baytown sites in Texas. The new facilities, set to commence operations in 2026, will bolster ExxonMobil’s annual advanced recycling capacity to 500 million pounds. This move marks a significant step toward the company’s goal of achieving a global recycling capacity of one billion pounds per year by 2027.
The advanced recycling process converts hard-to-recycle plastics into valuable raw materials for products such as fuels, lubricants, and high-performance chemicals. By addressing plastic waste that cannot be mechanically recycled, this innovation supports the transition to a circular economy.
Karen McKee, president of ExxonMobil Product Solutions, remarked, “This multi-million-dollar investment enhances our ability to process hard-to-recycle plastics and aligns with our ambition to provide scalable solutions for the growing global demand for recycled materials.”
The Baytown site, operational since 2022, has already processed more than 70 million pounds of plastic waste and represents one of the largest advanced recycling facilities in North America. ExxonMobil also collaborates with partners like Cyclyx to improve the collection and sorting of plastic waste.
The expansion reinforces ExxonMobil’s leadership in sustainability and its commitment to innovation in tackling the global plastic waste challenge.
