ExxonMobil’s Mobil Jet Oil 387 receives approval for use in GE90 engines

ExxonMobil has received approval for its Mobil Jet Oil 387 to be used in GE Aviation’s GE90 engine range. The GE90 engine was designed specifically for the Boeing 777 aircraft and is the world’s most powerful turbofan engine. The approval includes the GE 90-76B, GE 90-85B, GE 90-90B, GE 90-94B, GE 90-110B1 and GE 90-115B.

The lubricant is already certified for use on Trent 900, 1000 and XWB engines, as well as the GEnx and CF34-10.

According to ExxonMobil, Mobil Jet Oil 387 is the most advanced jet engine oil the company has ever developed, specifically designed for today’s and tomorrow’s engine technologies. Formulated with custom-made esters and internally developed additives, it delivers exceptional elastomer compatibility, superior thermal and oxidation stability and advanced deposit control, “a balance that has never before been achieved with a turbine oil.”

Mobil Jet Oil 387 shows excellent performance controlling deposits typically experienced in both the liquid and vapor phases in bearing compartments, oil supply lines, and breather/scavenger lines. The company said these properties have been confirmed in various laboratory tests, including the Corrosion-Oxidation Stability Test, Alcor Deposition Test, Vapor Phase Coker, Erdco High-Temperature Bearing Test, Ryder Gear, and the Mobil Thin Film Oxidation Test.

The closely controlled viscosity of Mobil Jet Oil 387 at -40°C (-40°F), and a pour point below -54°C (-65°F), ensure the good low-temperature fluidity which permits starting and lubrication at temperatures as low as -40°C.

Mobil Jet Oil 387 also exhibited excellent bulk oil stability at temperatures greater than 225°C (437°F) in extensive laboratory testing, the company said.
