Abu Dhabi’s IDB partners with XMILE for enzyme-based fuel additives

The Industrial Development Bureau (IDB), a key division of the Abu Dhabi Department of Economic Development (ADDED), has announced a landmark collaboration with the XMILE Group. This partnership aims to establish a pioneering facility in the Middle East and Africa region dedicated to reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions.

This groundbreaking initiative introduces the first enzyme-based fuel additives processing facility in the Middle East and Africa, aimed at decarbonising fossil fuels.

Founded in The Netherlands in 1999, Xmile produces an enzyme-based fuel additive. 

The collaboration with XMILE Group represents a significant enhancement to Abu Dhabi’s sustainable industrial development initiatives. This project is set to advance collaborative efforts across both public and private sectors, focusing on promoting sustainable low-carbon fuels throughout the fuel supply chain.

Advancing Abu Dhabi’s industrial strategy

Eng. Arafat Al Yafei, executive director of IDB, and Boudewijn Hugo Sanders, CEO of XMILE Group Ltd, signed the agreement, marking a significant stride in the Abu Dhabi Industrial Strategy’s (ADIS) mission to establish the emirate as a leading industrial hub. This initiative aligns with the ADDED Circular Economy Policy framework, aiming to foster an innovative and sustainable economy through responsible production and consumption in industries.

The agreement’s importance was highlighted at a signing ceremony attended by notable figures, including UAE Minister of State for Foreign Trade His Excellency Dr. Thani Al-Zeyoudi, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to the UAE  His Excellency Gerard Paul Marie Hubert Steeghs, and Undersecretary of ADDED His Excellency Rashed Abdulkarim Al Blooshi. The ceremony, held on the sidelines of COP28 UAE, was a testament to the UAE’s commitment to its Net Zero 2050 strategic objectives.

Al Yafei commented on the partnership’s alignment with IDB’s sustainability goals, emphasising the industrial sector’s potential in driving economic diversification and sustainable development in Abu Dhabi. Sanders of XMILE Group Ltd highlighted the shared vision and commitment to combating climate change and contributing to a greener future through this collaboration.
