Aether Fuels partners with GTI Energy on sustainable aviation and shipping fuels
Aether Fuels and GTI Energy announced an exclusive licensing partnership on February 5, 2024 to commercialise an economical solution for producing sustainable fuels from waste streams. The fuels will help aviation and ocean shipping companies achieve net-zero carbon emissions.
Launched in 2022 with backing from Temasek’s Xora Innovation, Aether is based in the U.S. and Singapore. GTI Energy develops solutions for low-carbon, low-cost energy systems. Their team works to scale technologies that drive energy transitions by converting gases, liquids and infrastructure.
The partners have developed a flexible process to convert captured carbon, industrial gases, municipal waste and more into liquid hydrocarbons. An integrated pilot system at GTI Energy makes 1.5 gallons of sustainable fuel per day.
Under the global licensing agreement, Aether Fuels gains exclusive rights to key GTI Energy technologies for producing renewable liquid fuels. Aether will lead further R&D and scale-up with support from GTI Energy.
โGTI Energy’s model accelerates development and commercialisation so technologies can impact the world,โ said Aether Fuels CEO Conor Madigan. “With the exclusive license, we can now rapidly scale this breakthrough solution.”
GTI Energy President Paula Gant said: โWe value partnerships with disruptive innovators like Aether Fuels leveraging our foundational technologies to shape low-carbon fuel solutions.โ
Aether’s process flexibility and economics aim to unlock the potential for waste-based fuels to contribute to net-zero transport.
