Ministry recognizes role of low-viscosity engine oil in vehicle fuel efficiency

South Korea’s Ministry of Environment has approved the use of low-viscosity engine oil developed by SK Lubricants as a business method for improving vehicle fuel efficiency.

“As carbon reduction performance can be recognized through the approval of this methodology, we will promote the use of low-viscosity engine oil and contribute to achieving the national greenhouse gas reduction goal in the transportation sector,” said SK Lubricants President Cha Gyu-tak.

Based on vehicle field tests conducted by SK Lubricants on cargo vehicles using low-viscosity engine oil, the amount of carbon dioxide reduction per vehicle compared to the existing engine oil was 1.4 to 2.8 tons per year, depending on the vehicle weight and fuel consumption. Reducing 2.8 tons of carbon dioxide is equivalent to planting about 424 pine trees.
