PKN Orlen changes name officially to ORLEN S.A.
Polski Koncern Naftowy ORLEN (PKN Orlen), a Polish multinational oil refiner and petrol retailer headquartered in Płock, Poland, has officially changed its name to simply ORLEN S.A.
The new name, which does not specifically reference petroleum, better reflects the company’s current business profile and future development plans. Importantly, this change does not entail any rebranding. Its logo and colour scheme will remain the same.
The name modification is a natural progression, following its recent acquisitions of the ENERGA Group, one of the largest energy distribution companies and one of three largest electricity suppliers in Poland, Grupa Lotos S., a vertically integrated oil company based in Gdańsk, Poland. and Polskie Górnictwo Naftowe i Gazownictwo S.A., a Polish state-controlled oil and gas company, headquartered in Warsaw, Poland.
“The new name more accurately represents the wide-ranging activities of our multi-utility Group and its strategic development trajectory, which includes expansion into offshore wind energy, nuclear power, hydrogen and synthetic fuel production, and green petrochemicals. Given that as much as 70% of the ORLEN Group’s value in the first quarter of this year was generated from non-oil refining segments, this renaming is indeed a logical step,” said Daniel Obajtek, president of the ORLEN Management Board.
The name change will not impact the company’s visual identity. The ‘ORLEN’ brand name and the red and white eagle’s head logo, which have been consistently used for marketing purposes, will continue to represent the brand unchanged.
The name change resolution of the Annual General Meeting, dated June 21st 2023, came into effect on July 3rd 2023, upon registration with the National Court Register.
