Senthil Kumar N appointed as director of Pipelines at IndianOil
Senthil Kumar N has been inducted into the Board of Indian Oil Corporation Ltd., taking on the role of director (Pipelines). As the leader of IndianOil’s expansive cross-country pipelines network in India, Kumar will oversee the corporation’s intricate pipeline infrastructure. This includes single point mooring systems, crude oil storage facilities, city gas distribution networks, and pipelines that navigate challenging terrains.
With a background in Electronics and Communication Engineering, Kumar brings over three decades of diverse experience in maintaining and operating IndianOil’s nationwide oil and gas pipelines. His vision for the corporation integrates technological advancements, infrastructure enhancement, and operational efficiency. These are grounded in the core principles of ‘Excellence, Integrity, People Connect, Net Zero, and Happiness’.
Prior to his recent appointment, Kumar served as the executive director (Operations) at the Pipelines Division Head Office of IndianOil. A staunch proponent of harnessing technology for solutions, he has been instrumental in fortifying pipeline security measures. He championed the Pipelines Intrusion Detection and Warning System, a significant technological leap to counteract pilferage in pipelines. Kumar also pioneered the Central Pipeline Information Management Systems (CPIMS) with a robust alternate communication system. In a move that eradicated manual interference in the transfer of petroleum products from pipelines to marketing storage terminals, he spearheaded the implementation of a mass flow meter-based transfer metering system.
IndianOil manages an approximately 18,500-kilometre (km) long network of crude oil, petroleum product, and gas pipelines. This network has a throughput capacity of 124.4 million metric tonnes annually for oil and 48.73 million metric standard cubic meters daily for gas. Globally, cross-country pipelines are acknowledged as the safest, most cost-effective, and environmentally friendly means of transporting crude oil and petroleum products.
