Tsukino unveils eco-friendly products from waste cooking oil

Tsukino Oleochemicals, a leading Japanese company, has made a significant stride in the realm of sustainable development. The company recently announced the launch of a new line of fatty acid ester products derived from waste cooking oil. This development is a testament to Tsukino’s commitment to promoting the efficient use of non-edible vegetable oil resources, a sector that has seen a surge in demand in recent years.

The new products are a significant contribution to the enhancement of biomass content in various products, and a step towards the realisation of a decarbonised society. This initiative aligns with the broader goals of the Tsukino Group, which is focused on maximising the use of rice bran. The group has been involved in the rice bran oil business, the fine chemical business, and the oleochemical business.

Tsukino Oleochemicals has a rich history dating back to 1960 when it began producing rice bran oil. Over the years, the company has developed a unique technology to manufacture a range of fatty acid derivatives. These derivatives are produced from by-products generated during the refining process of rice bran oil.

The company’s innovative approach extends to the responsible and effective utilisation of rice bran oil used in restaurants and other establishments. Tsukino has been championing an efficient utilisation business model that upcycles waste cooking oil into raw material for industrial products.

The new fatty acid ester products are a testament to Tsukino’s commitment to sustainability. By using waste cooking oil, a valuable domestic resource, as a raw material for industrial products, the company is contributing to the improvement of biomass content in products.

The newly launched products include TFE-248, a low viscosity, high flash point ester, 4PN, a highly hydrophilic ester ideal for use as an emulsifier for plastic working oil, and ODT, a complex ester characterised by high viscosity, which is suitable as an additive for processing oils and lubricating oils.

In addition to the new product line, Tsukino has also installed new equipment to increase the production of glycerin derived from waste cooking oil. Glycerin, used in various derivatives such as soaps and alkyd resins, is another valuable resource that can be derived from waste cooking oil.
