HIF Global sends e-fuels to Shell and Porsche in Germany
HIF Global has signed an e-fuels supply agreement with Porsche AG and Shell, marking a significant step towards demonstrating the real-world application of synthetic fuels in existing combustion engines. The e-gasoline, produced at HIF’s Haru Oni facility in southern Chile, will be blended by Shell in Hamburg and used by Porsche at showcase events in Germany.
HIF’s Haru Oni plant, located in Patagonia, is the world’s first integrated e-fuels facility. It utilises the region’s strong wind resources to power the production of e-methanol and e-gasoline using renewable hydrogen and captured CO₂. The site is certified under ISCC Plus and conducts more than 100 laboratory tests per day to ensure fuel quality.
Cesar Norton, president and chief executive of HIF Global, said the collaborative project with Shell and Porsche is intended to highlight the scalability and sustainability of e-fuels. He added that HIF is actively developing commercial-scale production facilities across Chile, Uruguay, Brazil, Australia and the United States to help meet global energy demand.
The agreement reflects growing interest in e-fuels as a transitional solution for decarbonising existing internal combustion engine fleets, particularly in markets where electrification faces infrastructural or economic hurdles.
