Honda EV Hub gears up for flexible production in Ohio
Honda has unveiled its innovative approach to electric vehicle (EV) manufacturing at its newly established Honda EV Hub in Ohio. The retooled facilities will allow the production of internal combustion engine (ICE), hybrid, and fully electric vehicles on the same production line.
Honda is investing more than USD1 billion in reconfiguring the Marysville Auto Plant (MAP), East Liberty Auto Plant (ELP), and Anna Engine Plant (AEP) to enhance sustainability and efficiency while creating a more human-friendly work environment.
“The Honda EV Hub provides us with the flexibility to produce ICE, hybrid, and EV models on the same production lines, allowing us to adapt to shifting market demands,” said Bob Schwyn, senior vice president of Honda Development & Manufacturing of America. “We have reimagined our production processes to enhance quality, efficiency, and sustainability.”
The first vehicle to roll out of the Honda EV Hub will be the all-new Acura RSX EV in late 2025, followed by production models based on the Honda 0 Saloon and Honda 0 SUV prototypes introduced at CES 2025.
A commitment to sustainability and innovation
Honda’s Triple Action to Zero strategy aims to achieve carbon neutrality, clean energy adoption, and sustainable resource circulation by 2050. As part of this initiative, the Honda EV Hub has implemented advanced energy-saving technologies, including high-efficiency melt furnaces, upgraded HVAC systems, and more efficient lighting.
The facility will also support Honda’s partnership with LG Energy Solution, investing USD3.5 billion in the L-H Battery Company joint venture. The new battery facility, projected to reach a 40GWh annual capacity, will begin production in late 2025.
Honda is also integrating recycling initiatives, such as repurposing scrap aluminium into battery cases and recycling uniforms into soundproofing materials for vehicles.
A new era for Honda Manufacturing in North America
Honda has produced vehicles in Ohio for more than 40 years, with its Marysville Auto Plant serving as the starting point for the companyโs expansion in the U.S. Today, Hondaโs five manufacturing facilities in Ohio employ more than 12,000 people, representing a USD13 billion capital investment.
With the Honda EV Hub, the company is positioning itself at the forefront of flexible and sustainable vehicle production, ensuring it remains competitive in the transition to electrification.
