The Asian Lubricant Manufacturers Union (ALMU) held its inaugural Annual General Meeting (AGM), at the Grand Hyatt Singapore on March 5, 2019. The meeting, presided by ALMU Council Chairman, Dr. Ho Leng Woon, was attended by ALMU council members and representatives of the association’s 108-member companies. During the meeting, Ho introduced the preliminary council and subcommittees, and provided an update on the organisation’s initial 12 month’s activity including member recruitment, and the development of its member services.

Following Ho’s address, Paul Nai, director, Product Management, Lubrizol Additives, Asia Pacific, Lubrizol Southeast Asia Pte Ltd, presented the results of a comprehensive ALMU Members’ Survey – conducted between September 2018 and February 2019, to better understand the uncertainty and complexity faced by individual member companies.

Subcommittee meetings for registered ALMU member representatives were convened on March 4, enabling the newly formed subcommittees to present activity plans for the upcoming year. ALMU has established five subcommittees focusing on technology & information; events & activities; professional development; governance, best practices & international relations; and membership.

The ALMU AGM and Subcommittee Meetings were held in conjunction with the trade association’s first major industry event – the ALMU Annual Meeting & Global Leadership Summit on 4-5 March. The Summit provides a platform for business leaders in the Asian lubricant industry to collaborate on pertinent industry issues, alongside professional development and educational programmes.

During the summit, Ho acknowledged the attendance of guest of honour Dr Tan Wu Meng, Senior Parliamentary Secretary in the Singapore Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Ministry of Trade and Industry. In his keynote address, Dr Tan highlighted the Government’s commitment to enhancing the sustainability and long-term competitiveness of the energy and chemicals industry in Singapore, and noted the importance of ALMU in providing a voice for Asia and encouraged lubricant companies in the region to join and support ALMU.
