INEOS acquires TotalEnergies’ petrochemical assets in Lavera, France

INEOS has completed the acquisition of TotalEnergies’ petrochemical assets at Lavera in Southern France, marking a significant advancement for the company. The acquisition encompasses Naphtachimie, Gexaro, and Appryl, which were previously 50:50 joint ventures between INEOS and TotalEnergies.

The deal includes one of Europe’s largest steam crackers, with an annual capacity of 720,000 tonnes of ethylene, an aromatics business capable of producing 270,000 tonnes annually, and a polypropylene business with an annual capacity of 300,000 tonnes. Additionally, the acquisition incorporates several infrastructure assets, such as part of TotalEnergies’ ethylene pipeline network in France.

Xavi Cros, CEO of INEOS Olefins & Polymers South, expressed his satisfaction with the completion of the acquisition, stating, “We are very pleased to confirm that today we have completed the acquisition of TotalEnergiesโ€™ petrochemicals assets at Lavera. We will now fully integrate these businesses and pipelines, which are valuable strategic assets that will further enhance the INEOS portfolio.”

The acquired businesses, including the Naphthachimie steam cracker, Appryl’s polypropylene business, and Gexaro’s aromatics business, will be fully integrated into INEOS Olefins & Polymers South at Lavera. Gexaro, located on the Lavera refinery site, will continue to be operated by Petroineos.

The acquisition represents a strategic move for INEOS, strengthening its position in the petrochemical industry in France and South Europe, and promising to enhance the competitiveness of its offerings in the region.
