ADM to open Brazil, Indonesia biodiesel plants

Archer Daniels Midland, already the U.S.’s largest producer of ethanol, is widening its biofuel portfolio with a push overseas into biodiesel. The Decatur, Illinois-based company is planning to open a 180,000 metric ton facility in Brazil in the next several months, as well as a plant in Indonesia with Asian agribusiness giant Wilmar International before the year is out. The plant, to be fed entirely by soybean oil, is being constructed adjacent to the existing ADM soybean crushing plant in Rondonopolis, which the company hopes will help maximize synergies among its local origination, transportation and processing capabilities.
