BSR speeds up construction of ethanol plant

Binh Son Oil Refining & Petrochemical Co. (BSR) said it is targetting to have the Dung Quat ethanol production plant in operation by the end of this year. BSR is an affiliate of the state-run Vietnam Oil and Gas Group (PetroVietnam). The Dung Quat plant will have a processing capacity of 250,000 tons of dry cassava, which can be converted to 100,000 cubic meters of ethanol per year. In addition, the new plant will also have the capacity to produce 1,500 tons of industrial alcohol, 30,000 tons of carbon dioxide (CO2), and 120 different types of additives for animal feed per day. The market for ethanol in Vietnam is expected to reach 300 million liters by 2012, 457 million liters in 2015 and 687 million liters in 2020. (March 17, 2011)
