Chumley to head Daimler-Chrysler China

Wayne Chumley, chief executive of Daimler-Chrysler Korea, will leave Korea to lead the American carmaker’s China unit starting July 1. He has been serving as head of the Korean unit since 1996. His replacement is Alan Ahn, marketing manager in the U.S. automaker’s Japanese unit, the carmaker said. When Chumley was appointed head of Daimler-Chrysler Korea 12 years ago, the market share of import vehicles stood at just 0.3%, compared with 5.8% in January 2008. He also served as chairman of the American Chamber of Commerce from 2003 to 2005. Ahn started his career at Daewoo Auto, now known as GM Daewoo Auto and Technology. He moved to Daimler-Chrysler Korea in 2004 as marketing executive. (May 19, 2008)
