CPCL plans refinery at Ennore

Chennai Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (CPCL), a group company of Indian Oil Corp., plans to set up a refinery and petrochemical complex at Ennore in Tamil Nadu, with an estimated investment ranging from Rs30,000 crores to 35,000 crores (US$7.38 billion US$8.61 billion). The project would be set up in association with Indian Oil and a strategic partner, K K Acharya, managing director of CPCL, said. Work on the project is expected to start in 2008-09 and will be completed by 2014-15. CPCL has sought 3,000 acres of land from the Tamil Nadu government for the project. Experts from CPCL and IOC are jointly conducting a feasibility study for refinery configuration, petrochemical configuration and other factors. (May 11, 2007)
