Geely chairman pushes for methanol standard

The chairman of Geely Automobile Holdings, Li Shufu, has asked China’s planning organizations to work out a national standard for the production of vehicles powered by methanol. In a submission to the National Committee of Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), of which Li is a member, the senior executive emphasized the importance of replacing conventional cars with those powered by cleaner engines. He also suggested that the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT), and the Standardisation Administration should speed up policies related to the use of methanol-powered vehicles nationwide.
