Headwaters, Sasol to embark on CTL study in India

U.S.-based Headwaters Inc. and South Africas Sasol are advancing a feasibility study into coal liquefaction in India’s long-neglected northeast. The study will assess the reactivity and liquid yields from the bituminous low ash coal available in the region. A former director of the Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited (CMPD), A K Ghose, said that such projects look eminently feasible, and they would also prove economical as long as crude prices do not dip below US$35-40 per barrel. CMPD is the consulting arm of Coal India Ltd. (October 22, 2007)
