NEA expects diesel fuel demand to moderate in second half

China’s demand for diesel fuel is likely to moderate during the July-December period due to efforts to limit energy consumption by energy-intensive industries, National Energy Administration (NEA) Director Zhou Xi’an said. A fall in diesel consumption could indicate the push for more sustainable economic growth is crimping the industrial sector even as signs emerge that the broader economy is growing at a slower pace. Zhou didn’t specify whether the expected decrease compares with a year earlier or with the first half of the year. China produced 76.47 million metric tons of diesel fuel in the January-June period, up 17.5% from the same period a year earlier, driven by industrial demand as the economy recovered.
