Pakistan's National Refinery chooses UOP process technology

UOP LLC, a Honeywell company, announced that its new process technology which is designed to help refiners get the most out of each barrel of crude oil was chosen by National Refinery Limited (NRL) so that it can maximize the production of diesel fuel and lubricants in Pakistan. The Uniflex processing technology of UOP helps refiners process the bottom of the barrel, which is the heaviest portion of a barrel of crude known as vacuum residue, and turn it into higher-value transportation fuel. Uniflex minimizes by-products even as it delivers 90% conversion of vacuum residue. Other upgrading process technologies for vacuum residue can convert only from 60% to 70%. NRLโ€™s new facility is scheduled to open in 2016, and will produce 40,000 barrels per day of diesel fuel and 4,500 barrels per day of lubricating base oils. (January 31, 2012)
