PetroChina has closed down its Hohhot refinery in northern Inner Mongolia and will focus on the construction of new equipment which will boost the refinery’s capacity to 100,000 barrels per day (bpd). The new units will be operational between June and August 2012. The construction of new equipment will allow the refinery to offer 2.12 million tons of diesel fuel, 1.71 million tons of gasoline and 200,000 tons of jet fuel annually to Inner Mongolia and Shanxi province. The expansion is expected to cost RMB7.8 billion (US$1.21 billion). (August 8, 2011)
