SABIC to build new polycarbonate unit with Sinopec

Saudi Basic Industries Corp. (SABIC) announced that it will construct a new polycarbonate unit with a 260,000 metric ton capacity, in conjunction with China Petrochemical Corp. (Sinopec). The unit will be located in Tianjin and will be managed by an existing 50-50 joint venture, Sinopec SABIC (Tianjin) Petrochemical Co., Ltd. Both sides have agreed to invest an additional 15 billion yuan (US$2.3 billion) to build four more petrochemical units to produce BPA and polycarbonate. The unit is expected to be completed in 2015.
