Shell launches new double-hull barges in Singapore

Royal Dutch Shell PLC said it has launched the first of four new double-hull lubricant barges in Singapore that will reduce emissions and noise pollution.
The first barge, chartered from Hong Lam Marine Pte. Ltd., is equipped with diesel electric propulsion systems and will be the first of its kind among the lubricants barges in service in Singapore, Shell said in a statement.
“Compared with traditional mechanical systems, these diesel electric systems provide higher fuel efficiency and operational flexibility, while at the same time, reduce emissions, noise pollution and vibrations,” said Lim Teck Cheng, chief executive of Hong Lam Marine.
Shell provides shipping operators and fleet owners with lubricants for a range of marine vessels from oceangoing container ships to small fishing vessels.
