Suzuki Philippines to open new plant in July

The Japanese multinational company, Suzuki Philippines Inc., revealed plans to double its production capacity with the opening of its new PHP1 billion (US$23.2 million )plant in Canlubang, Laguna, in July this year. Suzuki Assistant General Manager Benedict Martin Arreola said that last year, the company produced only 60,000 units in their plant in Pasig, Metro Manila. Once the new facility in Canlubang becomes fully operational in November, the production capacity is expected to reach 100,000 units. The company failed to realize its goal of selling 860,000 units last year because of a slowdown in the implementation of the governmentโ€™s infrastructure projects, which led to low employment levels. Suzuki sold 730,000 units last year, with 42% of the buyers coming from the D market. This year, the company hopes to achieve its 2010 sales level of 760,000 units. (January 18, 2012)
