Suzuki to introduce CVTs in mini-vehicles

With an eye toward environmentally friendly offerings, Suzuki Motor Corp. plans to introduce continuously variable transmissions (CVTs) throughout its mini-vehicle line-up. These transmissions improve fuel economy by 10 to 25%, contributing to lower carbon dioxide emissions. But with growing consumer interest, it has decided to install them in other models apart from the Cervo and Wagon R, as they undergo full or partial redesigns. Vehicles equipped with CVTs cost around ¥50,000 (US$555) more than those with automatic transmissions, so automakers have been slow to use them on the price-sensitive mini-vehicle segment.
