Lubrizol unveils next-gen ATF additive for hybrid vehicles

Lubrizol has launched Lubrizol® AT9311, a next-generation automatic transmission fluid (ATF) additive designed to serve a broad range of passenger cars, including traditional internal combustion engine vehicles and modern hybrid electric vehicles.

Unveiled in Shanghai, China, the additive is engineered to support high, low, and ultra-low viscosity formulations and is aimed at addressing the complex requirements of the fast-growing Chinese automotive aftermarket. With the number of passenger vehicles on Chinese roads rising sharply, especially luxury and new energy models nearing the end of their warranty period, demand for high-performance ATF solutions is surging.

Lubrizol® AT9311 incorporates a single-additive formulation designed to lower treat rates while maintaining OEM-level performance. It is compatible with modern 9- and 10-speed transmissions and hybrid systems, and offers strong electrical safety and material compatibility—a critical requirement for new energy vehicle powertrains. The additive has undergone extensive validation through lab simulations, more than 100,000 kilometres of real-world road trials, and collaboration with domestic Chinese automakers.

According to Henry Liu, vice president of Lubrizol Asia Pacific, the innovation reflects the company’s commitment to both global excellence and local market integration. He noted that the Chinese market’s complexity and demand for innovation have driven Lubrizol to tailor world-class technology to local performance needs through rigorous testing and data modelling.

Lubrizol says the product has already been adopted by leading premium car brands and is being used by top lubricant producers in China. It positions AT9311 as a strategic solution to help customers reduce costs and streamline product portfolios while delivering exceptional wear protection and performance under ultra-thin film conditions.

Looking ahead, the company plans to deepen local partnerships and lead the transition toward a more efficient and sustainable automotive aftermarket.
