Lucy Nation appointed as new BP Australia president

BP Australia has announced significant changes to its leadership team, with Lucy Nation set to become the new country president starting July 1, 2024. Nation, who will also continue in her role as vice president of Hydrogen for Australia and Asia Pacific, takes over from Frédéric Baudry, who has decided to step down and leave the company.

Nation, an engineer with extensive experience across various global markets, has been with BP since 1998. Her career has spanned roles in refining, manufacturing, and trading in Australia, the U.S., UK, Europe, and Singapore. In 2018, she returned to Australia to serve as vice president of Midstream for Asia Pacific, overseeing supply, wholesale marketing, and terminals for downstream businesses in the region. Additionally, Nation has played a pivotal role as BP Asia Pacific’s chief financial officer and spearheaded the local energy transition strategy, driving BP’s ambitious projects in low carbon fuels, green and blue hydrogen, and renewable energy in Australia.

Among her notable achievements, Nation has been instrumental in developing BP’s expanding portfolio of green hydrogen and energy projects. This includes the Kwinana Energy Hub, which features hydrogen production at H2Kwinana, Project GERI in Western Australia’s Mid West, and the Australian Renewable Energy Hub in the Pilbara, representing the AREH Joint Venture partners.

Frédéric Baudry, Nation’s predecessor, leaves behind a legacy of 36 years at BP. Since assuming his role in the Asia Pacific in 2020, Baudry has significantly advanced BP’s transformation into an integrated energy company. His contributions include repurposing the Kwinana refinery to potentially produce sustainable aviation fuel, promoting BP’s gas and hydrogen projects in North West Western Australia, developing over 200 EV charging points across Australia and New Zealand, and commissioning Australia’s first public hydrogen refueling station. Baudry also played a crucial role in expanding BP’s mobility and convenience business across the Asia-Pacific and Southern Africa.

BP has expressed profound gratitude to Baudry for his outstanding service and contributions and warmly welcomes Nation to her new role, anticipating continued growth and success in the company’s operations and initiatives across Australia and the Asia Pacific.
