Mitsui Chemical holds groundbreaking ceremony for new Lucant® plant

Mitsui Chemical Co., Ltd. held the groundbreaking ceremony for a new plant on 25 April to manufacture Lucant®, a high-performance synthetic hydrocarbon oil . The new plant is located at Mitsui Chemical’s Ichihara Plant, located in Ichihara City, Chiba Prefecture, Japan.

Lucant® is mainly used in gear oil formulations in automobile driveline fluids, industrial lubricants and greases, as viscosity modifiers for lubricating oils, and other applications that require extremely high standards of quality.

This investment will allow Mitsui Chemical, which has an existing marketing agreement with Lubrizol Corporation to market Lucant®, to expand sales to the lubricating oil industry through this strategic alliance with Lubrizol.

The amount of investment in the new plant was not disclosed.  Commercial operation of the new plant is expected by February 2021.
