NORA seeks comments on draft specifications for asphalt extenders’ use

NORA, a U.S.-based trade association representing used oil recyclers, has developed two draft specifications relating to Vacuum Tower Asphalt Extender (VTAE). One has to do with its use in pavement construction, and another with its use in roofing materials. NORA is accepting comments on the draft specifications until 3 April 2015.

VTAE is derived from oil distillation and has been used in asphalt paving and roofing since 1983. In 2014, some U.S. states banned the use of VTAE in asphalt pavement because of concerns over negative impacts from the use of the product. Therefore, NORA has led efforts to develop specifications that will address these states’ concerns.
