Numaligarh Refinery Limited exports first petroleum wax shipment to Europe

India’s Numaligarh Refinery Limited (NRL) has sent its first shipment of petroleum wax to Europe, the company announced.

“Export to Europe assumes special significance since the European market is known to be quality-conscious and entering into this prestigious market will further enhance the brand value of NRL wax. This is also a testimony to the high quality of NRL wax, which has within a span of two years, been able to establish a foothold in more than a dozen countries worldwide including Mexico, Kenya, Nepal, Bangladesh, Nicaragua, Thailand, Hong Kong (China), Brazil,” the company said in statement.

NRL Chief General Manager (Finance) Indranil Mitra flagged off the consignment from the company’s marketing terminal at Numaligarh. The 132 metric tonne (MT) wax consignment is destined for Poland. NRL’s total wax export currently stands at around 6,000 MT. The company is seeking opportunities to export wax to more countries.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi dedicated NRL’s wax plant on February 5, 2016. The 50,000-MT plant, which was commissioned on March 2015 at a cost of INR 676 crore (USD 106.3 million), is the country’s largest wax producing unit, with indigenous technology developed by the Indian Institute of Petroleum-Dehradun, Engineers India Ltd and NRL.

Numaligarh Refinery Limited, which is located in Numaligarh in the district of Golaghat, Assam, was dedicated to the nation by then Prime Minister Shri A. B. Vajpayee on July 9, 1999. The refinery, which has a crude oil production capacity of 3 million metric tonnes per year (MMTPA), also produces LPG, naphtha, motor spirit (MS), aviation turbine fuel (ATF), superior kerosene oil ( SKO), high speed diesel (HSD), raw petroleum coke ( RPC), calcined petroleum coke (CPC) and sulphur.
