Nynas launches process oil for low-temp ink production and silicone fluid replacement

Nynas has introduced NYFLEX® 2120B, a hydrotreated, very low viscosity naphthenic oil, a process oil ideal for use as a printing ink distillate in heatset formulations, as well as a reliable and cost-efficient alternative to traditional silicone fluids.

NYFLEX® 2120B is a hydrocarbon fluid characterised by its solvent power and excellent fluidity. Its unique naphthenic characteristics, allied with high purity, make NYFLEX® 2120B compatible with a wide range of resins used in heatset printing inks (such as C5 and C9 resins, as well as rosin resins). Offering the added advantage of low solubilisation temperatures, NYFLEX® 2120B also meets the most demanding industry requirements, such as the Blue Angel environmental standard.

‘’This latest addition to our process oil portfolio represents a real innovation for the printing industry,’’ says Ghislain de Quatrebarbes, market manager, Chemical Industry. ‘’It is a significant improvement on the paraffinic distillates which are used currently, facilitating the production of low-temperature process inks while maintaining a HSE profile that meets the highest standards.’’

NYFLEX® 2120B has also been designed for use in silicone sealant formulations. With demand currently outweighing the global supply of silicone, silicone-based product and sealant producers are looking for an efficient and high-quality alternative.

‘’With a tight supply straining the market and causing difficulties for many silicone sealant producers, Nynas is providing the solution,’’ says de Quatrebarbes. ‘’Its fluidity, solvency, and natural prevention of bacterial growth make NYFLEX® 2120B an alternative to traditional silicone fluids which formulators can count on to perform.’’

NYFLEX® 2120B is now available in all regions, through Nynas’ global supply and distribution network.
