
Perstorp opens new specialty chemicals laboratory in Shanghai
Perstorp and BRB, both wholly owned by PETRONAS Chemicals Group Berhad (PCG), have inaugurated a new innovation hub in Shanghai, China. The state-of-the-art laboratory, officially opened on 17 April 2025, aims to strengthen technical support for customers across the Asian market, focusing on faster response times and enhanced application development.
The new Shanghai innovation hub is designed to support product and application development across several market segments, including synthetic lubricants, thermal management fluids, personal care, and coating solutions, as well as the silicones and intermediates business. This investment forms part of PCG’s broader strategy to expand its innovation capabilities along the value chain and reinforce its leadership in the specialty chemicals sector.
Dr. Debbie Chiu, chief operating officer of PCG Specialty Chemicals, commented that the new laboratory underscores the company’s commitment to innovation, customer co-creation, and global growth. Dr Axel Tuchlenski, head of innovation at PCG Specialty Chemicals, added that the platform will allow the company to anticipate market trends more effectively, deliver tailored solutions faster, and strengthen face-to-face customer engagement across Greater China and Asia.
The inauguration event brought together customers from the various sectors the lab will serve, reflecting PCG’s continued investment in customer-centric innovation and regional development. The facility represents the latest step in a series of initiatives aimed at enhancing PCG’s global presence and accelerating the time to market for new solutions.
