Prabhat Singh is new CEO of Petronet LNG

Prabhat Singh has been appointed managing director and chief executive officer of Petronet LNG, India’s biggest importer of liquefied natural gas (LNG). Prior to this, Singh, 58, was the director of marketing at GAIL India.

Singh is a civil engineer, having graduated from the prestigious Indian Institute of Technology, Kanpur, and brings to this position 35 years of experience in the hydrocarbon industry. He is a vastly experienced professional having worked his way up in diverse areas including project planning & management, project execution, exploration & production, training & organizational reforms  and business planning & marketing.

Commenting on his appointment, Singh said, “I am deeply honoured to have this opportunity to lead Petronet LNG during this important time of transformation. I look forward to expanding on the strong foundation that has been built over the years.”

Singh has been instrumental in putting India on the world gas map, being one of the first countries to have sourced LNG from the U.S.  Singh’s major contribution has been the execution of the world’s longest exclusive LPG pipeline project from Jamnagar to Loni. The project was recognized by the Asian Development Bank as the “Best Managed Project” of the year. He was also instrumental in ushering in the “Open Access Common Carrier Principle” in India which brought in a paradigm shift and contributed manifold in transitioning the pipeline  industry in India into the mature industry that it is today.

Before joining GAIL (India) Limited and serving the company for almost 20 years, Singh had served in various leadership positions at British Gas, EIL and NTPC.

In a separate disclosure to the stock exchanges, GAIL India said that subsequent to Singh’s appointment at Petronet LNG, he ceases to be on the board of the company.
