Ravenol expands EV gear oil range with new EV-Synto products

Ravenol has expanded its EV-Synto product line with the introduction of three new high-performance transmission oils, designed specifically for electric vehicles (EVs) with dry and wet engine systems. As electric mobility continues to reshape the automotive landscape, these new formulations address the unique demands placed on EV reduction gearboxes.

Unlike traditional combustion engine vehicles, electric vehicles rely primarily on single- or two-stage reduction gearboxes. This is due to the nature of electric motors, which deliver high torque consistently across a wide speed range, eliminating the need for multi-stage gearboxes. The resulting demands on transmission oils are substantial, requiring superior temperature management, high material compatibility, enhanced efficiency, and robust dielectric properties.

Particularly in wet engine systems, where transmission oil also serves as a coolant for the electric motor, the lubricant must withstand strong electrical fields and maintain insulation integrity to prevent potential short circuits. Special attention must also be given to reducing transmission noise, given the quieter operation of electric motors compared to combustion engines.

Ravenol’s new EV-Synto transmission oils aim to meet these advanced requirements. The range includes:

  • Ravenol EV-Synto ATF E-Transmission Fluid, developed for reduction gearboxes in dry and wet systems from manufacturers such as Hyundai, Kia, Nissan, Lexus, Toyota, and Mazda.
  • Ravenol EV-Synto Extra Fluid 70W E-TF, formulated for applications including Honda, BMW’s i-Line, Mini, Tesla, Volvo, and Rivian.
  • Ravenol EV-Synto Super Fluid 75W E-TF, designed for reduction gearboxes from brands including Mercedes-Benz’s EQ-Line, BMW’s i-Line, Volkswagen’s ID-Line, Porsche, Audi, and Jaguar.

Each product has been engineered with a focus on extending drivetrain longevity, improving thermal and electrical safety, and enhancing vehicle performance. Ravenol emphasises that manufacturers’ specifications must always be followed for correct application.

These new offerings underscore Ravenol’s commitment to supporting the evolving requirements of the electric vehicle sector with cutting-edge lubricant solutions.
