Royal Dutch Shell appoints Huibert Vigeveno as downstream director

Royal Dutch Shell plc announced the appointment of Huibert Vigeveno as downstream director effective 1 January 2020.

In his new role, Vigeveno will become a member of the Executive Committee and will succeed John Abbott. Abbott will assist with the transition until 31 March 2020 and will then leave the company after 38 years of service.

“I am grateful to John for his strong leadership of the Downstream business, and particularly for having strengthened its performance and portfolio. Over many years he has delivered critical contributions to the Shell Group across a range of businesses and geographies. Through his determined efforts, underpinned by a focus on strengthening safety leadership and people development he leaves our Downstream business well-positioned for the future,” said Royal Dutch Shell Chief Executive Ben van Beurden.

Vigeveno is currently executive vice president, Global Commercial, having formerly led the successful integration of BG. He joined Shell in 1995 and has held a variety of customer-facing, commercial and operational leadership roles across a range of businesses and geographies. He has worked in Europe, North and South America and Asia, including three years as the executive chairman of Shell China Limited.

Vigeveno holds a Masters in Business Administration from Erasmus University.
