Shell boosts MIDEL ester fluid production to meet global demand
Shell has announced a significant investment to expand the production capacity of its MIDEL synthetic ester fluid at its Trafford Park facility in Manchester, UK. This new production line, expected to commence operations in early 2025, is part of Shell’s commitment to meet the rising demand for sustainable transformer fluid solutions globally.
Richard New, managing director of MIDEL & MIVOLT Fluids Ltd, highlighted the importance of the investment. The commissioning of this new production line reflects the continued growth in demand for our synthetic ester fluid, and reflects the broader shift by end users towards ester-based transformer fluids, he said. This investment aligns with Shell’s acquisition of MIDEL from M&I Materials in 2023, further solidifying its position in the synthetic ester transformer fluid market.
Shell’s expanded production aims to ensure that utilities and OEMs worldwide can access a dependable supply of environmentally sustainable transformer fluids, reinforcing Shell’s focus on supporting safer and more resilient power infrastructure.
