Shell leads global lubricants market for 18th consecutive year

Shell Lubricants has once again claimed the title of the world’s leading supplier of finished lubricants, marking its 18th consecutive year at the top, according to Kline & Company’s latest report, Global Lubricants: Market Analysis and Assessment 2023. The accolade reflects Shell’s dominant position across consumer automotive, commercial automotive, and industrial lubricant segments.

Jason Wong, global executive vice president of Shell Lubricants, commented, “Our commitment to providing innovative, efficient, and sustainable solutions ensures we remain at the forefront of the lubricants market. Our focus now is on leading the industry into a sustainable future.”

Shell’s success is driven by its premium offerings, including Shell Helix, Shell Rimula, Shell Tellus, and Shell Gadus, which are preferred choices in major markets. Additionally, its early adoption of e-fluids for electric vehicles and data centres showcases its focus on innovation.

The company’s sustainability initiatives are central to its business strategy, with significant efforts to reduce carbon emissions and develop environmentally friendly products such as biodegradable lubricants and circular packaging. Its advanced low-viscosity lubricants not only enhance fuel efficiency by up to 3% but also improve energy efficiency in industrial applications by up to 4%.

Shell Lubricants maintains a global market share of 11.6%, with its sales evenly distributed across consumer automotive (36%), industrial (33%), and commercial automotive (31%) segments. The company operates in 175 countries and remains a key player in shaping the future of the lubricants industry.
