SK Lubricants signs deal with Malaysian carmaker Proton to supply gear oils

South Korea’s SK Lubricants Co. announced that it has reached an agreement to provide gear oils to Malaysian carmaker Proton, marking its first inroads into the Southeast Asian factory fill market.

SK Lubricants said it will supply ATF SP3 gear oil to Saga MC, a new model to be released in February by Proton, beginning in April next year for 32 months. The agreement covers 86,000 vehicles.

SK Lubricants, which is part of SK Innovation Co., owner of South Korea’s largest oil refinery, said the deal will become a cornerstone in expanding its market presence in the finished lubricants business in Malaysia.

Besides its finished lubricants business, SK Lubricants also produces Group III base oils in South Korea and through joint ventures with Repsol in Europe and Pertamina in Indonesia.
